The Hudson River Valley Greenway announces the availability of grant funding through its Hudson River Valley Greenway Community and Compact Grant Program. Successful applicants may be awarded up to $100,000. Applications are due October 31, 2025. Program guidelines and applications are available at: https://hudsongreenway.ny.gov/grants-funding.
The Greenway Community Grant Program provides matching grants to Greenway Communities and Compact Communities. Greenway Communities are eligible to receive funding to develop plans or capital projects consistent with the five Greenway criteria: natural and cultural resource protection, economic development, public access, regional planning, and heritage and environmental education. Awards with a single municipal applicant are capped at $20,000. Awards for projects with multiple municipal applicants are capped at $30,000.
The Greenway Compact Grant Program provides funding for projects that are consistent with the Greenway criteria or advance the relevant Greenway Compact. Municipalities are eligible to receive up to $50,000. Counties are eligible to receive up to $100,000 to develop a Greenway Compact and up to $75,000 to update an existing Greenway Compact.
“This program seeks to fund projects that will shape future growth, recreation, and preservation opportunities that ensure ongoing regional sustainability and growth. The Greenway is thrilled to support the region’s communities through this program,” said Andy Kitzmann, Executive Director.
The Hudson River Valley Greenway was established by the Greenway Act of 1991 to continue New York State’s commitment to the preservation, enhancement and development of the world-renowned scenic, natural, historic, cultural and recreational resources of the Hudson River Valley, while continuing to emphasize appropriate economic development activities and remaining consistent with the tradition of municipal home rule. The Hudson River Valley Greenway also manages the federally designated Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area.
